TURANGANUI BOWLING CLUB. HANDICAP PAIRS. The Taranganui Club’s green was wel patronised yesterday, some interesting games beiDg witnessed. Chief interest oentred in the Handicap Pa ; rs, tho first match in the competition being played, and, after a close game, resulted— Hailey Lucas Morrison, skip 20 Hamon, skip 19 Hailey and Morrison jumped off with the lead, securing two singles, and their opponents replying in like manner brought the scores eveo on the 4»h head with 2 all. The Bth head saw Hailey and Morrison with 7 against 3, but Luoas and Hamon securing a 4, made the score on the 9th head 7 all. Each side obtaining a 1 alternately, the pairs were 8 apiece on the 11th bead. Hailey and Morrison then put up some good scoriog, obtaining 12 on the 4 next heals, making their score 20 to 9on the 15th head. Luoas and Hamon responded in good manner, and securing 8 on the following 5 heads, brought their score to 17 against Hailey and Morrison’s 20. Requiring 3to tie, Lucas and Hamon put up 2 on the last head, Hailey and Morrison thus winning by the narrow margin of 1 poiot, At a meeting of the committse of the Club, Mr 0. J. Bennett was appointed secretary in place of Mr Hallam, resigned. Mr J. A. Lucas was elected a member of the Club.

GISBORNE CLUB’S PROGRAMME

A meeting of the Committee of the Gisborne Bowling Club was held Ibbl oveDiog in the Masonic Hote', Mr J. A. Harding presiding. A lengthy report was received from the Club’s secretary, Mr T. Adair, in regard to the visit of the Gisborne bowlers to Wellington, pleasing reference being made to the excellent performance of the two rinks. The report continued, 11 Our teams did exceptionally good work, and it was with the greatest pleasure that we learned that out of the thirty-one clubs competing that they had won in their section. In the play off Gisborne, after a hard fight, defeated Newtown, but being beaten by j Victoria the three teams were again even. In the fioal round Victoria drew the byo and, Gisborno beiDg beaten by Newtowo, the latter played off with Viotoria, whom they defeated for the banner and shield. This ended a most successful and interesting tournament. On their way homo out teams mot the Bluff Hiff and Napier Clubs and tried conclusions with them, with tho result that we won all the matches. Wo as members of tho club should feel proud of the stand that our teams male at the tournament.” Alter considerable disoussion it was decided that tho Gisborne representative toams should play a match against two ricks from the other members of tho Club and Messrs Simson and Coleman were appointed to select the home teams. The game will be one of thirty-one heads, and will take place to morrow afternoon, commencing at a quarter to two sharp. It was decided to ex'eod an invitation to the Weßt End and other local olubs to witness ohe match. _ ‘ The quostion of the District Shield " matches was discu-sed at soma length. It was d:cided to make an al.oration in the city boundary extending it as fares Darby street, tho Victoria township being inoluded in tho West End district. Tho Whatoupoko and Haiti districts will remain as at present. Tho following ware appointed oommltteos to select the several teams: Ka'ti, Messrs Ponsford and Pettio ; Wost End, Messrs Gaudin and Robertson; Wbataupoko, Messrs Seymour and Martin ; City, Mossrs Coleman and Massey It war resolved that the fust of the Shield matches should bo p’ayed cn Thursday, February Ist, commencing at two o’olock. It war decided to invite entries for tho olubs’ championship, the fame to close on Thursday week. Entries close to-morrow for the champion of champions and runners-up contest frr the special prizs donated by Mr R. Johnston. In the lattor contest each player will ploy each player, whilst in the former case tho game will be a knock-out one. In view of the abovo contests some first- , class play should bo witnesred during the next few woeks.
