(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last n’ght. George Taylor, licensee of the Fitzroy hotel, was fined £5, with costs, by Mr Kettle, Stipendiary Magistrate, for selling intoxicants on Christmas Day. Replying to representations as to slow progress of work at the northern (Seddon) end of the Blenheim-Wai-para railway, the Minister of Public Works states that instructions have been issued to double the number of men employed, provided the requisite labor can be found in the district. The Minister also explains that the current vote for the whole line, £45,000, is to be expended as a whole, including both the Beddon and Cheviot ends, and adds that from present appearances it seems probable the whole of this sum will be expended by the close of the financial year.
