ANNIVERSARY DAY.
(P« Press Association.) Wellington, yesterday. Glorious woather prevai's for Anniversary Day, which is being observed ss a close holiday. The principal attractions are the raoing at Trentham, the Port Nieholson Yacht Club’s regatta, aud a oarnival at Worser Bay, all of which .are largely patronised. Wanganui, yesterday. For Anniversary Day the weather ia fine. Tho chief attraction is tho Caledonian sports, which are largely attended, in Cook’s Gardens. The Sheffield Handicap resulted : H. Taylor, 12yds, 1; J. Shivas, 7yds, and E. Quill, 12yds, a dead heat, 2. One-mile Cycle : H. Mehrtens, 10yds, 1; J. Anderson, 55yds, 2; R. Vincent, 70yds, 3. Later.—The Wanganui Caledonian Society held their twenty-third annual sports to-day. The weather was beautiful and there was a large attendance. There was unusually keen competition in the piping and danoing events, the competitors coming from Southland,. Dunedin, and Hawke’s Bay. 0. Smith and MoKechDie were most successful in danoing, and J. and D. Cameron carried off the prizes for piping. The athletic and cyoliog events were well contested.
