At the County Council meeting yesterday, Mr W. D. Bell wrote stating .that a cheque of the Council’s in his possession bad been destroyed, and he asked for another of the same amount, £l3 13s 4d, ' adding that he would accept responsibility for any trouble that might arise. The Clerk explained that Mr Bell’s wife had put Ibe cheque in tbe fire along with other articles. Cr Harding said Mr Bel) had given bis wife a lot of old papers to destroy, and supposed the-cheque was among these.
