The Chairman of the Conciliation Board had to deal with nine applications for permits (o work at uador-rate wages by membe:s cf the Tailoresses’Union. Four were granted, and five were refused. The Chairman said he would tike future applications in batohes for the Tailo. esßes’ Union. It was contended that it was unfair to take a girl away from the work to which she was accustomed, put her to other work, and then classify her as incompetent to earn the minimum wages. At an inquest touching the death of Timothy Collins, killed by being thrown from a cart at Deborah Bay, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Richard Williams, aged 56 years, working for Williams and Kirkland, at Taieri, was thrown from the horse ho was riding to-day, and died from injuries received.
