Yo3terday in t * lo Magistrate's Court Edward Josoph Raid, a young married man of Ashburton, was admitted to six months’ probation on achargo of embezzling rnonoys oolloolod as canvasser for an insuranoo company. Ho was ordered to refund tbo amount and pay tho co3ts. Ia tho esse of Ueoil Ward, a lad of 15, remanded from Monday on a ohargo of using obsoono languogo, Mr Koddol, B.M, said it was not a caso .for probation. Ho ordered a month’s hard labor in Dunodin gaol. Ward tho previous day had be on convicted of drunkonnoss and discharged. Dunedin, last night. A pocnl’ar case cropped up in tho Police I Court this morning. Edgar Gustavo March, with aliases and a bad record, was obarged with stealing a quantity of dothiog and slippers in which were two £lO notes. Tho notes wore seoroted under the heels of the shoos, and the thiof did net know they were there. Tho question was whether ho had stolon them or not. Mr Riddel held there must bo intention to deprive, and amended the information by striking out tho reforenoe to notes. The police contention was that tho information should stand, and tho point was left for the deoision of the Supremo Court.
