A special meeting ef (ho Borough Council was held last night to fix the day of the half-holiday for the year, Or Wbinray sa'd it was a pity that the County had adopted Wednesday, thus having two separate half-holidays for town and country. The Mayor said the Borough had rojeoted Wednesday nu aooount of it being mail day. They had had Thursday for a j longtime in the Borough, and no objection had been raised to its biing continued. He proposed accordingly. Or Harding seconded the motion, whioh was carried. Cr Webb said that Thursday bad worked I admirably ; there had not been a single complaint during the year. Tbero was auother crowded house at H;s Majesty’s Theatre last night when Mr Macdermott conoludod his short season at Giaborno. There was much enthusiasm throughout tho (entertainment, and “ Mack's New Piotures” .and the remainder of tho programme wore vociferously ackuowledgod to exceed the high ex peclations. The football match was of oourse again tho chief centre of attraction, but there were many other highly attractive features, not forgetting the olever Professor Scott, who gave what would have been a highly creditable entertainment in itself. The oompany procoed South by the Manuka this evening. At a committee meeting of the Chamber of Commerce the following new members (21) wero elected as tbo result of tho canvass made: —Messrs W. O. The President (Mr DeLautour) said that many called on were absent from their offices, and it was resolved to advertise asking all those desirous of beoonring membirs to communioate with the secretary. It was resolved that an advertisement bo inserted, stating the seerttary would be pleased to hoar from all business people desirous of exhibiting at the New Zealand Exhibition.
