A COMEDY EVENT.
| THE " J.P." As tho approaohing visit of tho Strand Theatro Oomody Company draws nigb, tho exoitomont over tho impending pro* duolion of tho groat faroioal sucoass iooroasos, and it is almost a safe propcsition to say thnt tho forthcoming soason of the oompany will provo ono of tho most brilliant in the tbeatrioal annals of tbo tour. Tho “ J.P.” is desoribod os a piooo whloh has boon constructed by its author I to c.eato laughter by any and a'l means, and consequently is a voritable soroamor. | Headed by two leading English Gaiety stars in tho persons of Miss Floronoo and Mr J. j. Dallas, the company include Misses Maud Ohetwynd, Florence Redfern, Magda Rossmoio, Madge Herrick, Norah Delaney, and Austin, Mossrs Aubrey Malla'iou, Grogan M'Mahon, Tom Oaunam, Johnson Weir, oto. The plot is shortly tho adventures of Cicsar Montague, “ J.P.,” the lettors signifying both justioe aDd peaoo and joou'ar party. Cicsar is both. At boms ho is eminently rospeot* table, staid and sober to a degreo ; abroad at Boulogoo ho is oompletsly opposite. Ho is particularly anxious to stand well in the esii'n.tion of his nephew, who is to bo his htir, provided he fal's in with the matri- ' monial arrangements mado by bis uncle I on his behalf. Charlie has matrimonial arrangements of his own. | Ho has been married on tho quiet to Flo Neville, principal hoy at the Bijou Theatre, whoso own particular friend is Kate Earle, at the Gaiety Theatre, and wifo of a low comediaD, who fanoies ho was bom to play tragedy. Tho two ladies take tho lead in the exposure of the pious fraud, who is ever addressed as the J.P, and who has had a bad time, particularly under tho trep/ment of Flo Neville, who putting heraoif in male attire, assumes the style and tills of Captain Rattior, a gay dog, and lures tho man on the brandies and sodas and a little game of nap, in whioh he orsho contrives to fleece him of ail his money seeing that Charlie underneath the table arranges the cards, Such is a brief outline of this smusiog comedy and the doings of J.P. and his friends, aad there seems lilt e doubt that orowded houses will rule throughout the season, as tho demaud for seats has been exceptionally heavy, The season is limited to three nights only, and for tho last night of tho season another great English faroioal sucoess is. announced in “ There and Baok.”
