BURGLARIES.

Par Press Association.

Auckland, last night. The thieving fraternity seem to have had considerable “business ” on hand during }he holiday season. The residence of Mr Wm. Frater, stockbroker of Aroey road, Remuera, was burglariously entered, while the family wn3 away during the week before Christmas. They came back to find that the place had been oveivsi hauled by thieves, who had apprcpr ; ai(|g!jl abnut £SO worth of propeiqy, including jewellery, cutlery, a pair of binoculars and new serviettes. Entranca had been effected by forciog the luck with a jemmy. Mr Jrs. Prestan, grocer, on returning to his shop at the corner of Mono! Roskill road and Prospect Terrace, after a few days’ absence, discovered that a burglar bad been at work. Preston had left the key of his safe in some clothes when changing for the holidays, and tho burglar having effected an entrance evidently dis« covered this unfortunate oversight, for the safe was opened and rifled of its contents, £lO in money being missing. A peculiar feature about tho robbery is that the thief took only gold and silver, leaving about £5 in notes, whioh were rolled up olose to tho ooins, and could hardly have been overlooked.
