POVERTY BAY v. UNITED. , [(Special to Gisborne Times,) Napier, last night. The Poverty Bay cricketers sustained a second defeat to-day, being beaten by United by an innings and 37 rune. Batting first Poverty Bay were all out for 82. Robinson, not out 24, was top scorer, Sheridan 17, and Torkingtcn 10 were the only others to reach double figures. Hughes 6, Preaney 4 accounting for the wickets. United’s firet venture produced tho large total of 285, duo chitfly to gcod batting by Young 72, and Fenton 47. Four other batsmen made over 30, and. there were 32 byes. Ferrie, 5 for 27, was the most successful bowler. Poverty Bay jJL made a belter etand in their second effarVCf? with the bat, and knocked up 156, Lasker 5 > playing a capital free innings for 76, including ten fourers. Robinson 19, Goulding 16, Olsen 16, and Ferris 10 were the other double-figure scorers. Fenton,four wickets, wsb the beat bowler. Several of tho tram wero somewhat stiff after fhs previous match, but all are showing improved form and should easily win their match with Hastings to morrow.
OTAGO DEFEATS AUCKLAND.
(Per- Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The cricket match, Auckland v. Otogo, was concluded to-day, the local toam winning by 149 rune.
