FRASERTOWN

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A loaded five horse wool waggon' owned and driven by a native named Matetu, went over the side of a cutting on the Waikaremoana road, and narrowly escaped falling in the river. The driver was badly cut about the head and legs, but the horses escaped injury. The trouble was caused by the leader shining. The district school broke up for the mid-summer holidays on the 20th inst. The prizes wore distributed by the chairman (Mr Davey) in the forenoon, and tho children were entertained at a picnic in the recreation ground in the afternoon, when sports and other pastimes wore engaged in Tea was served on the ground at five o’clock, when a plentiful supply of cakes, &c., was done ample justice to by the j uvoniles, who seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. A meeting of the working committee of the A. and P. Society was held on Saturday 16th inst. Present were Messrs. A. Sinclair, S. Twigg, T. Powdrell, A. Beckett, A. Steed (secretary), Correspondence was read and dealt with. The secretary was empoweied to arrange for sale of privileges, and also to ascertain if the Wairoa brass band would play on show day for five guineas and free admission to ground. The sports committee were granted the use of the marque. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Douglas Walker, for offer of manuka rails for yards, and to Mr Davey for offer to cart same. A vote of thanks was passed to the yards committee for their report. It was decided to defer the erection of new yards for the present, and repair the old ones for the coming show, owing to) shortness of time and difficulty of procuring suitable timber. It was decided not to hold the chopping competition this year. It was decided to extend the date for entries from 6th to 10th of January.
