ROWING.

Last evoning tho Poverty Bay Rowing Club rowed off the fifth and sixth boats of the double soulls, when W. MoQuflio (sor) ! and O. Somocviilo (usee) met. A good P start was obtaiued by Somervell, who was rowing well, but McGuffie was ono too many for him. Ho passed Somorioll at the bathing shed, anl won easily by a longth and a half. The next heat was between A. MoOonnell (6seo) and Oinaa (2secs.) MoOonnell got a bad stmt, and Oman was soon up to him and lei all the | way, winning by two lengths. To-night Oman meets L. Tate, when a good roco should reult. On Monday McGuffie will row Webb, and on Wednesday night the final will bo rowed. Mr A. Pritchard was starter. The fical for the Gisborne Rowing Club’s trial fours was rowed list evoniog on tbo Waimata between orows stroked by 0. Sharp and P. Bayly. The crews were as follows: Sharp s;r, CummiDg 3, W. Williamson 2, B. Bright bow, and Bayly str, Davidson 3, RaDgi 2, W. Luttroll bow. Both crews took the water together, and a splendid race ensued. Sharp gained a slight advantsg) at Dr Williams’, and was leading by a few feet whoa the boats shot the bridge. Bayly rowed a gamo race, but was unable to get upon level terms, and the race finished in Sharp’s favor by a narrow margin
