CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS.
SCHOOLS’ DISTRIBUTION OP PRIZES. The schools throughout the Gisborne diatriot broke up for their Christmas holidays yesterday, and in several inslaocoa the ccoasion was marked with the distribution of prizes and awards, At the breaking-up ceremony in connection with the Gisborne sehoo 1 , Mr Andrew Graham, chairman of the Com mitSer, preaeotod the awards, and among others present were Messrs 0. Nield, J. Somorvell, W. L. File, and the Rev, Daw son Thomas. Mr Graham congratulated the ohildren on tho near approach of the holidays, and pointed out how fortunate they were in having s : x weeks io which to enjoy themselves. The Rev, Dawson Thomas also addressed the children.

MANGAPAPA SOHOOL. Thoro was a crowded attondaneo at tho Maogapapa Sohool, Mr M. McLeod, Chairman of tho Committos, prosiding, whilst Captain Tuokor distributedj tho prizes. Mr Sinsbury’s prize for the best collection of Poverty Bay grosses was awarded to Una MoLood, and sooond prize lo Alfred Foster. Tho headmaster’s prizo for Nature diary was won by Kitty Robb.

Mr MoLeod referred in eulogistio terms to the oapable work done by Mr Hunter and his assistants, and ooDgratu- | lated h : m upon haviDg passed his solicitor’s law examination. Mr Hunter su'tably responded, thanking tho children and teaohers for thoir handsome presents.
