A drowning fatality ooeurrad the other day, in the Mudgee district, New South Walos, the victims being two lads, Lynn Dykes and John Byrnos. The lads were bathing, when they got out of their depth. A young man, named Minohen, tried to save them, but was himself nearly drowned.

The Chief Justicr, in sentencing him to six years’ imprisonment, said the offences, if taken sepa v ately, would make accused liable to 160 years’ imprisonment. There was a crowded congregation at St Andrew’s Church last evening, when the Itav. J. A Press Association telegram states:— " Tho reason given for tho law examination list being withheld from publication is that in the past some feeling is a'leged to have arisen to tho detriment of non successful candidates. There may be some justification for the aotion of the registrar's offioo (it is not an order of the Senate itself) in not giving the list lo the press as usual, but if this polioy were generally followod, say, in regard to schools aod kindred iustitutions, there would quite naturally be considerable resentment.

On Saturday mouvng Frank Gerald Bailey, alla3 Brookes, was at tbo Police Court charged, upon remand from Napier, with obtaining, on May 7th, from James Erekine, sums of £2 16s Id, £4, and £3 by meanß of valueless cheques. Also with haviDg obtained on May 8:h, from G. B. Oman, sums of £L 14s, and £6 10s. Amelia Bailey, the name being subsequently altered to Marion Myers, a well dressed, middle aged woman, was charged with aiding and abetting Bailey in obtaining tbo money from Oman. On the application of tbo police, the cbsos were adjourned until the 22nd, in order to obtain oertain witnesses from Auckland.
