Christchurch, last night. At tho Magistra'o’s Court yesterday morning a young Maori woman named Mattha Taniei, with 12 previous conviotions, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment on two charges of obtaioiog money nnd goods by false pretences. Acouted in tbo first case represented herself to be tho owner of property at Papanui, valued at £35,000, and in the second she represented that she had a cheque for £250 on an Australian Bank, but could not get it cashed, on the strength of wbioh she borrowed £6.
