SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

MOTOR CYCLE RUNS INTO A STEAM TRAM.

(Per Press Association.) Christchuroh, last night. A somewhat serious accident occurred in Montreal street this morning. A man named Charles E. St. John, of Kaiapoi, was riding a motor cycle at a speed estimated at 20 miles per hour, when he dashed into the engin3 of a steam tram travelling along Moorehouso Avenue, which intersects Montreal street at right angles. Attached to the motor cycle was a Bide-carriage, in which a Miss L. Turnbul 1 , of Sydenham, was sitting. The motor cycle and the carriage were puehed along the rails by tho tram engine for about ten yards, during which St. John and Miss Turnbull received severe injuries. Tbe former wes very mnoh out and bruised, aud tbe latter had her leg broken, in addition to being soverely shaken and bruised. Both were removed to tbe hospital in a semi-conscious condition. _ . - •—~ ■
