A DENIAL.

REPLY TO MR WALL.

(To the Editor Gisborno .Times.) Gisborno ; December 12th, 1905. Sir, Seeing a letter in your issue of this date, a lotter signod Mr H. Wall, and as my name was mentioned lirst, X think it my duty to put things that are called facts in their proper place. It is quite true that I and others named were at the meeting mentioned in Mr Wall’s letter. I was asked a short time before it took place to meot Mr Wall and his committee. When there I looked round and wondered where Mr Wall’s committee wore. I thought Mr Grey and Mr H olden were the representatives of that body. I must state emphatically that I in no way pledged myself or the No-Incense League to support Mr Wall’s candidature at that meeting. I stated before those prosent it had been the policy of the No-License League not to interfere with politics. The business of tho League was to run nolicense. I think others of the nolicenso party present used words to the same effect. As to taking a pledge from Mr Wall that he was not to mention that ho was supported by the no license party till after the election, I never heard of such a thing until I saw it in the lettor published. It is not a true statement. If Mr Graham wrote Mr Wall’s address that may be true enough. But if I was putting myself forward as a member of Parliament I would like to write my own address. I have no wish to give anyone any offence, but truth is truth, and right is right.—Yours respectfully, JOHN SOMERVELL. Sir, —I have read the above letter, which is true in substance and in fact, and I thus sign my name. FRANCIS STAFFORD.
