No uttempt had boen made t r influence anyone by bribery or anything rise. No payment, direct or indirect, was over made to any oflaoor of tho department in connoct'on with the acceptance or oontinuanoo of tho contract. Pricos from the railways wore higher than from priva'o buyers. This was due to competition of miooa outside tho Association. If tho Asmciation could put competition down it would do so. Tho railways paid a higher prioo because they wore unable to gat tho coal they wanted from elsewhere.
