POLLING DAY.
(From O.ur Own Correspondent.) Dec. 7. Tho weather was everything to be desired for electioneering, slightly overcast, with a cool breeze blowing, making travelling much pleasanter than is generally experienced at this season of tho year. Eighty-live electors all told, including a fair percentage of the fair sex, turned up at the school-houso to record their votes. The roads iu tho vicinity presented quite an animated appearance for the time being. Mr Carroll headed the poll with 47, to 35, two and one for Mossrs Clayton, Darton and Wall respectively. The licensing vote, was
more iu favor of trade thau at last election, tho numbers for which were : Continuance 51, Reduction 23, Nolieenso 30. A keen interest in the election throughout has boon manifested in the district, and as pollingday approached speculation was rife as to the upshot. A large number of back country residents anxious to hear tho final announcement, waited about until the different roturns camo to baud. Result after rosult proclaimed Mr Carroll to bo first favoiite on tho Coast, few, however, wero prepared for the gigantic majority lio scored on the aggregate; although it has been generally felt all through that tho seat was a sure thing for Mr Carroll, every one expected tho contest to be rather close, . '
