HEAVY GROUND. The ground, from , previous rains, waß terribly heavy, and tbo condition-told palpably on ihe players, inasmuch' towards tho end of the game'many of.the eon* testants were fagging. ENGLAND’S TEAM. The greatest care had been taken in the selection of the team to do battle for the Old Country, with the result that a fine team was got together, which inoluded seven old international players. ’V. NEW ZEALAND TE AM. . In the New Zealand team Gallagher (Auckland) and McGregor (Wellington) replaced Mynott (Taranaki) and Smith (Auokland), the latter having injured his shoulder in the Limerick mateffi Newton (Canterbury) took the place of Canningbarn (Auckland). Otherwise the team was the same as that of last Saturday; A HOT ATTACK. ; Reversing the tactics of the match against Ireland, tbe colonials took the initiative, and opening with a hot attack invaded the Home Country’s 25, and the latter were hard at work defending thoir line. FIRST SCORE. From scrums inside the quarter flag McGregor got possession of the bell and whipped over the line, thus registering, first blood for the Maorilanders within minutes of the start of the game. Waflabll (Wellington) bad the shot at goal, but the ball went wide. " : " MeGREGOR’S SECOND TRY.
On resuming the New Zealanders fol* lowed np their advantage with renewed vigor, and continued to press the home t&am, keeping them penned down. -Various efforts to cross the line were frnit'eis until about ten minutes later than the first score, when McGregor again got through, but Wallace failed to register the major points. 1 ; ■ . ,

McGregor was playing in rare style, and his brilliant dashes for the line elicited oheers from the immense oruwd.
SECOND HALF. * The opening of the seoohd half was a repetition of the first, the visitors still beiDg on. the offensive, and for a quarter of an hour England was sorely, pressed, though the colonials were unable to break through the defenoe. ' "■ A CHANGED SCENE.

In quick succession McGregor added still another try to his credit, and this time the ball was placed forGillet (Canterbury), but his effort was attended with no better success than those of Wallace. A BRITISH RALLY. t In the last few minutes the Britishers rallied somewhat, and made a desperate effort to soore. GOVERNMENT MESSAGE. Wellington, yesterday. New Zealand beat England by 15. to nil. MoGrogor. scored four tries,, and MoDonald : one try. The 4.
