ALLEGED FORGERY—£2O,OOO

The arrest of a city solicitor and another man ou a ohargo of attempting to defraud a solicitor named Wilson of £4O led to tho disclosure of a sensational story. The arrests were made on the strength of a document placed in tb6 hands of tho police by Wilson. According to Wilson, early in the year a retired sea captain made the acquaintance of a woman with whom he became olosely associated. A few months ago tho captain died suddenly. Shortly after bis death the woman handed the captain’s will—undor which she was left all his property, amounting, it is alleged, to about £2o,ooo—to one of the arrestees. It was witnessed by u woman friend of tho beneficiary, in whose handwriting it was made out. At this stage a nephew of the • dead captaiD, who resides in New Zealand, oame on the soeno and disputed the will. He produced one made by his uncle years ago, wherein ho was sole heir. Wilson alleges that the case was set down for hearing in Wellington next Thursday The woman, however, took ill, and confessed the will was a forgery, and that the others knew it,
