THE LICENSING QUESTION.

MR LYSNAR AT WAERENGA-A-HIKA The Wasrenga-a-bika schoolroom was taxed to its utmost capacity last night, when Mr W. Douglas Lysnar gave au address against prohibition. Mr W. Barber was voted to the ebair.

Mr Lysnar made a strong indictment i regarding the after effects of no-license, emphasising that it would simply mean doing away with the sale under licensed regulations, and allowing in its place uncontrolled illicit Bale of inferior liquor. He quoted a letter written by Mrs Harrison Lee acknowledging that no*liceDse would not prevent liquor coming into a plaoe, Among those present were several prominent no-lioense advocates, who kept np a fire of interjections, to whioh Mr Lysnar replied. He referred in strong terms to the taotjes of the prohibition party in connection with the leading article in the Ma'aura Ensign. Although the full article had appeared in the Gisborne papers, they had published a correction made of an erroneous condeneat'on of the artioie that had been given in Tlmaru. He denonnoed this es deceitful, and characteristic of the misrepresentations made by the prohibition patty. Over an hour was taken up in answering questions, and on the motion of Mr R. MoOarthy a vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Lysnar, and a like compliment to the chair oonoluded a very satisfactory i eating.
