COOK COUNTY COUNCIL

ANNUAL MEETING, The annual meeting of the Cook County Council was held at noon yesterday, when the following members were present ; Crs Harding, McDonald, H. Ken way, P. Kenway, Matthews, Carmichael, H. i±. Wall, w J Lysnar, and Captain Tucker. ‘ ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The first business taken was the election of Chairman for the ensuing year, the clerk, Mr J. Warren, taking the chair. , . _ , . Cr Harding proposed that Captain Tucker be the Chairman for the year, I and in doing so paid a high tribute to the services which he had rendered to the ratepayers during the past years. Captain Tucker, he said, was one of the oldest members of the Council, and one who had always worked in the interests of the greatest number. Cr H. H. Wall seconded the nomination, and in the course of _ his remarks stated that as the Council comprised several new members it was well for them to be guided by one so qualified as Captain Tucker. / There being no other nomination

Captain Tucker was declared elected. In acknowledging the honor conferred upon him Captain Tucker gave a brief review of the work of the Council and its position financially- He hoped the new Council would work as amically together as the old one. He could not possibly have had a better Council than the last one, but he felt sure that the Council would do their utmost in the interests of those who had elected them. The increased calls upon the resources oi the Council had last year caused him to suggest that a slightly increased rate should be struck, but this proposal had not been agreed to.
