i A fire at Mangere on Sunday morning - destroyed a store occupied by J. P. Poulson, storekeeper, and the -.building adjoining occupied as . a store-room, also a building in which 'A, 0. Poad, blacksmith and coach■smith, carried on business. Insurances : Liverpool, London and Globe ;£3OO, Victoria £3OO, and Norwich Union £75. The loss is considered over these figures. The body of a man, name Charles Thomson, aged 27, was found dead ■with a gunshot wound in the head on the roadway at Howick. Papers in Fis pockets showed he contemplated jsuicide. , j The Tutanekai will be despatched lat noon to-day; under instructions -from the Marine Department, to ■search for the dismasted vessel reportled by the Iquiqui. ! John McSweeney, aged 22, was 'arrested and remanded for a week, ibail being refused/ on a charge .of ishooting three Chinese at Arch Hill I with intent to do bodily hnrm. Ten | Chinese pursued the man, who esIcaped, but was arrested this morning from the description. I Bond and Judd’s timber mill was j completely destroyed by fire to-day. i A large stock of timber and a quantity of machinery were destroyed. | The brigade turned out and the fire :float went across, but; was unable to j cope with the flames, which made a ; clean- sweep. The origen is unknown.
New Plymouth, last night. ■ As a protest against the action of .the Wellington branch of the Political Labor League in running a candidate against Mr O’Regah, several 'members of the local League have resigned. "
