Tho Bradford wool markot is doprossod, owing to reduced colonial I quotations, and business is checked. ' Forties I6d, 46’s I7£d, common 60s 25£d, super 26£d. Butter is quiet with a lower tendency. Danish is unchanged. Choicest colonial 108 s to 110 s per cwt, a few lots 112 s, secondaries 106 s. Tallow.—ln stock 653 casks, imports 5391, deliveries 7962. The Czar's proclamation has chocked the speculation in wheat caused by the strikes in Russia. Prices are rather lower. All the markets are quiet. The American markets are firm, owing to operations of bulls. Cargoes are neglected. New crop, Docember shipment, is offered at 345, December" January shipment 33s 6d. Australian on spot is scarce at 31s 6d to 355. Christohurch, Friday. There is good inquiry on the part of local millers for prime wheat, and the market is firm, sales of oxtra prime having taken place at 3s Id at country stations. A large line, principally Hunter’s, has been sold at 3s at Rakaia. From Oamaru it is reported ■ that the wheat market is much more active than for some time past, largely in consequence of inquiries from the North Island for, prime milling. Merchants seem disposed to give more than local millers, and sales have taken place of velvet up to 3s 4d and up to 3s 5d for Tuscan, f.o.b Oamaru. Oats are meeting with some inquiry in Christchurch, but business is re stricted, owing to the scarcity of offer ings.

The Department of Industries and Commerce ha? received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, 4th:— . *• Mutton: Market ia very dull, on aooount of the absonoe of demand. Heavy weights sold at mutton prices- A large supply is at present held in store. «■ Beef: The market is weak. Sapphes of River Plate are increasing. Large quantities of River Plate chilled are arriv- ; ing in bad condition. The average prioe to-day for hindquarters New Zoaland beef , is Bfd per lb, forequarters 2|d per lb. •• Butter: The market ia firm. There is j a large demand for better grade. A small shipment by the s.s. Athenic arrived in good condition. The average price to-day l;or ohoioest New Zealand butter is 116 s per cwt, Danish 121 s. «Cheese: The market is rather unsettled. Canadian sold at 575. “Hemp: The market is firm. The price of New Zealand hemp, ‘ good, fair Wellington ’ grade, on spot to-day per ton is £Bl 10s, Manila October and December shipments £4l 10s. 11 Cooksfoot seed: The market is quiet. The averago prioe for bright, olesn New Zealand oocksfoot seed weighing 171 b per bushel on spot is 51s per cwt. “ Kauri gum: Ordinary fair threequarter soraped £6 10s, fair half scraped 90s, brown fair half and three-quarter soraped 775, brown piokings common and good 445, bush fair and good pale and amber scraped £5 ss. The stock held in London ia 1094 tons. The market is steady and the demand only moderate. <« Wheat: New Zealand long berried wheat on spot granary, per quarter 4961b5, is 31s. New Zealand short berried wheat on spot granary, per quarter 4961b5, is 80s. The market is firm with an improved demand.
