MAN’S GALLANT SWIM FOR HELP.
.(Per Fiess Association.) Ohristohurcb, last night. The Secretary of the Royal Humane Society has received an application for recognition of a brave act performed by Ewan 0. Eoberte at tho Bay of Plenty on March 28rd of this year. Mcßoberts, whff is a letter carrier, was out boating oa tho coast between Mauugatapu and Matapibi with another young man Darned Spooner and two young ludieß. Tho boat upset and the occupants found tbomselves etruggling in twenty fort of water. Mo. Roberts only could swim, and after his three companions had gainod hold of the upturned boat, he set out for the shore, threo quarters of a mile away. He, however, failed to gat any assistance, and then commenced a long swim of a tnilo aoroaa an.arm uf the sea in further terroh for aid. Eventually ho vui picked up by a man nnmed Obappoll and a Maori, aud the three rowed towards the soeue of aooident, where they found the two young ladies and jo-rng Spooner in the last Btagos of exhaustion.
