LADY WALLACE WINS THE DERBY.

A large crowd were present, including a large number of visitors from the various States. The results were : Maiden Plate—Elysium 1, Paralooh 2, Alskye 3. ■ Betting: 3 to 2 Elysium. Won by a nose. Time, 147. Maribyrnong Plate—Orellet 1, Ebullition 2, Port Arthur 3. Ten others ran. Betting: 2 to 1 against Oriellet. Ebullition led into the straight, but inside the distance was caught by Oriellet, who won by two lengths. Time, 1.4 3-5. Hotham Handicap—Demas 1, Panama 2, Aurate 8. Seven others ran. Betting: 6to 2 Aurate, 3to 1 Demas. Won by 14lengths. Time, 2.404. Derby.
Lady Wallaoe... 1 Grama ... ... ... 2 Infanta ... ... ... 8 All started bat Circuit. Betting: sto 4 against Lady'Wallaoe. The most prominent among the field }n tho early stage of the raoe were Scotland, Infanta, Pins, and Charles Stuart, but at the abattoirs Lady Wallace began to move up, and she followed Infanta into the straight, where a fierce dust storm was encountered. Racing out of this Lady Wallaoe and Grama were seen in the van, but in the final struggle the favorite more than held her own, and won by half a length. Tims 2.40. ' Melbourne Stakes—Tartad 1, Marvel 2, . Gladsome 3. Six others, including Maniapoto, started. Betting: 6 to> 4 Gladsome, 6 to 2 Marvel Loch, 12 to 1 Tartan. Gladsome and Marvel Loch swept into the straight together, and the latter appeared to be having the best of the struggle when Tartan oame with a wet sail and won by two lengths. Time, 2 94, I Coburg Stakes —Debenture 1, Rewmar-1 ket 2, Maori States 3. Fourteen otbers I started. Betting: sto 2 Circuit. 10 to 1 Debenture. Won by a length. Time, 1.414. ' Encourage Stakes— True Soot 1, Scramble 2, Baerami 8. Nine others ran. I Betting: 7to 4 Jack Smith, 2 to 1 True Soot. Won by a length. Time, 1.114. 1

After his meritorious win in the Melbourne Stakes, a fair amount of business was done over Tartan for the Melbourne Cup at 7 to 2, after which 8 to 1 was the best offer. Other quotations are: 9 to 1 Soot Free, 14 to 1 Marvel Looh, 16 to 1 Maniapoto, Blue Spec, and Fabric, 20 to 1 Emir, Gladsome, Grama, and Warroo, 83 to 1 Torah, Anrate, and Canteen.
