* Per Press Association. \ Ashburton, last night/'-"' There was. beautiful weather for the People’s Day of (he show until late in the afternoon, when showers fell, but did not interfere with tho programme. The attendance, although not a record, was much larger than last year, about 7000 being on the grounds. One of .the prinoipal features was tbo parade of the entry of 870 horses, which were marohed round the ring aooording to class, aad drew forth much admiration from visitors from tho outside distriots. It was generally conceded by experts that for the size of the entry and the quality, the horses in the dranght section could not be matohed in the colony. The prinoipal prize-takers in the hunters were Elworthy Bros, and L. Male!; horse jumping, R. H. Bissett; ponies, O. ißooorts, A. Andrews, B. J, Dansey, H. E. Blunden.
At the Auckland Labor Day demonstration tho Northern Boiler Milling Company was awarded the champion gold medal, again proving that ‘ Champion ’ is the workers’ champion. The following is an extract from .the Star r-r-The Northern Milling Com*, pany’s display was a splendid one, and
we doubt if its ten vans and 20 homes , driven by drivers in white costumes : could be surpassed in the Australasian : colonies. This company’s display was in the following order:—No 1, large waggon drawn by four beautiful blacks with the following mottoes : “ The only ‘ Champion ’ who killed tho “ Trust,” “ We hold the * Standard.’ ” To remind the public that such was the case. Piper Major Fortheringham played several bag-pipe challenges for the Flour Trust to step out and get its gruel, but they were not accepted. No. 2—Large lorry drawn by four lovely dappled chestnuts. This is looked upon as the company’s aristocratic team, the names of the horses being Prince, Princess, Nelson and. Togo. On this lorry was the comical “Champion” .Theory Club and Orchestral Society, which elicited rounds of applause for its accurate
burlesque playing as it wonded.its way through the crowded streets. No 3 Large lorry drawn by three noble bays. Un this lorry were the company’s products “ Champion ” and “ Standard ” muscle-raisers built in the shape of al# fort, with two - young soldiers on tkefetL. Lookout for the Trust or its spies. The*" mottoes on this lorry were. “Have > you seen the Trusts ? ” “ Why Chamsion crushed the Trust.” No 4 Single-horse lorry drawn by a’ dark bay. On this lorry was mounted the company s home short-ranged gun (as , long-ranged one was defending
