The annual report of the directors o: the National Insurance Company for the year ended September 80th shows-that £IO,OOO was added to the reserve. The directors reoommend the usual dividend of ninepeuoe per share, and oarry forward £10,616.
The Arbitration Court’s decision in the case of Crowe v. New Zealand OU and I Coal Company has been received. This I was a claim for compensation for an aooi* dent Crowe was Bent for, and when going’ along the drive the truoker invited him to ride. This is against the rules of the mine, and Crowe declined, but by reauest he returned to light the trucker's lamp, and on : being asked again to ride was mounting the track when the. accident occurred. The Court held that Crowe was not entitled to recover, and he was ordered to pay £7 costs.
Christohurch, last night. At. the Lyttelton Police Court this morning Francis Mapple was fined 40s ‘ for assaulting William John Puttram bv patching him by the throat and threatening to stab him.
