'(Per Press Association.) Westport, last night. Lightning struck the house of Mr E. Rowley and did cousiderable damage. It made a hole about one foot in length in the roof, knocked down the chimney' smashed a tile grate, ran along the spouting, smashed the top and scorched the end of the house. The fowlhouse also was knocked down. _ ■ A public inspection of the Union Company's new steamer Arahura produced £6O to the hospital funds. Hamilton, last night. The Government has purchased the Waitomo caves and adjoining property including the accommodation house. It is intended to place a caretaker at the coves and light them with electricity. The Tourist Department takes possession to-day. , ,
