BOOKMAKERS HEAVILY FINED.

At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Barney Ryan was fined £lO for bßtting in a pubiio place, and evidence was given to show ooeused was calling the odds on the Warrnumbool-Melbourno road raoe, in High street, but although he took money 1 he refused to pay bets. Mr V. G. Day, 3.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning heard a number' of informations laid against bookmakers by the Canterbury Jockey Club, and the trustees of tho Christohuroh racecourse, for trespassing on August 16th, 17th, and 19th. Tho following fines were inflicted Eric Bradshaw, three charges, £3O; E. William's, two charges, £2O; G. Pearce, two obargeß, £l6 ; J. lloMahon, £5 : J. Cuthbertson, two charges, £l6; W. Pollock, £5 ; 8. H. Briorley, two obargeß, £l6 ; H. Rowe, £6; F. Clark, £10; A. Gove, three charges, £5 ; W. Stellen, £5; S. Barton, £5; J. Laaohlan, two charges, £2O; and W. Langley, £6. Oharges agaiDst J. Fairbairn, T. Johneon, M. Barnett, and P. Grant were dismissed. ’* '; : W
