St. Petersburg,'Oot 29. :. Obituary : General Dragomiroff. ■ Lisbon, Oot, 29. Advices from Loanda state that natives in ambush opened a heavy fire on a Portugese force. The latter took a kraal at Ouissongs in the face of resistance of 3000 natives, many of whom were killed. They also stormed entrenchments and fired redoubts, carrying another kraal defended by 200 natives. Three; Portugese were killed and 12 wounded.
Sydney, October 80, t Noumean news states that a French warship from the New Hebrides reports that the warship Pegasus landed a [force at Bushman's Bay, and surprised ,the village of Nevaar. Five natives were killed, several were wounded, and 50 captured. The villagers had frequently attacked the whites, and challenged the warships to' attack.
Brisbane, Oot. 80. . A woman found • a Chinaman ; trespassing in her house, and struck him with an iron bar, killing him.
i'oSiS: _ Perth, Oot, 80. Returns are sufficiently complete to shtow that the Government have a majority of sixteen or seventeen over other parties combined. The defeated candidates include Jacoby, Speaker, a Ministerialist, and ex-Senator Harvey. The Labor party lost nine seats.
