Spiders are met with in the forests of Java, whose webs are so strong that it requires a knife to cut through them. It has been stated by the Attorney. General at Pretoria that 1994 Chinese have been convicted for breaches of the labor regulations, and that there are 921 Chinese in gaol, of whom 68 are serving sentences of more than six months.
