A Taumaranui telegram statos that the passenger train is. stopped at Te Kuiti by floods. The rails for a distance of two miles are,in. flood. All traffic is stopped. > ’■ ! f }■ In the Magistrate’s Court Eugene Hulse sued Dr S. A: Bull, honorary physician of the Auckland Hospital, claiming £2OO for the loss of' his .adopted son, alleging that defendant treated the boy for typhoid fever when the roal trouble was inflammation of tho lungs. The case is proceeding. '* v - • John Oharton, a bookmaker, appeared in, the Police Court thiß morning to answer a charge that on or about Ootober 4th, he,. being, the •occupier of a certain: office; in Vulcan .Dane, did unlawfully use it for the ’purpose of betting and as a common: gaming house; that he used the office: for the receipt of money made on horse races, and that he. unlawfully ’ made a bet there with John Duggan ? upon the result of the Welter Handicap, run at Hastings, Hawke’s Bay,, whereby Ghurtori agreed to pay to l uggan if the • latter should win such bet a•' sum of moneys dependent in amount upon the result of the working of the totalisator." Chief Detective Marsack asked for a remand, whioh was granted. The petition of Mrs Elizabeth Vateß against the election of Warren Blytb as a member of the Onehunga Borough Council, was considered by Mr It. W. Dyer, 5.M.,. at. Onehunga. The petitioner recently .contested the by-election against Blyth, who was elected by a majority of 78. The Courthouse was crowded. Mr Bloomfield, for petitioner, specifically stated his objections-to Blythe’s election, as follows: (1) That respondent was not an elector within the meaning of the Municipal Corporations Act; (2) tha; his name was not on the district elec 8 toral roll; (3) and that his name wa wrongly placed by Council or Clerk upon an alleged supplementary roll within 14 days from the day of election. Respondent's reply was that he was not responsible • for any of the alleged irregularities, and in any case suoh irregularities were not sufficient to void , the election. Reserving the point as to whether he could admit Mr Bloomfield’s specific charges, his Worship heard evidence and argument and intimated that he would give his decision in Auckland as soon as possible.
New Plymouth, laot night. Mr Hutchison, S.M., this morning fined J. W. Keaby 20s and costs for a breach of the Electoral .Act, 1902. Keaby signed a claim for enrolment, about one month aftey arriving; here from another district. He declared he thought it was a transfer claim he signed/} /Another; oharge against the person who witnessed the claim was dismissed.
Nelson, last night.- . ■: Herbert Huddlestone, formerly sobool*' master at .-Murchison, 1 announces bis candidature for Mctueka seat as a Go vernbaent supporter. The almost continuous rain that has fallen this week oulminated last night in a fierce downpour. Low lying portions of the oity are flooded. There- is water inmany oellara, and in Hardy street and parts of Bridge street it is up to the baok doors of shops and -residences. Portions of road crowns and some railway ballast*' ing Toitol Valley have been washed away.' The rivers ore bank high., Business is suffering severely owing to the continuous and unusual wet woather. The damage’ from the flood is not severe.
