The Executive Committee of the Exhibition met to-night, when reports from various sub-committaes were considered. The report of the agricultural committee, oovering a proposal for a four days' show, on the understanding that the A. and P. Association is subsidised to the extent of £IOOO, was held over until the finance committee deals with the suggestion. It was agreed to send Mr Jas. Jamieson, of Christchurch, to England and the Continent to secure pictures for the, art gallery, providing the Government approves of the recommendations and the expenses do not exceed £6OO. Suggestions to hold a band oontsst and engage a permanent orchestra for tbo Exhibition were approved, and Mr. Tom Pollard was appointed director of entertainments as from July Ist at a salary of £5 per week. On the recommendation of the Trades’ Council it was agreed that a clause should be inserted in all conlraots providing for payment of employees at the rates fixed by the agreements and awsrde under the Arbitration Act in fores in the district.
The Mayor stated that very encouraging progress had been made since last meeting of the Executive.
