LAID BOARD.
The Hawke’s Bay Land Board met at GUborne yesterday. The Commissioner of Crown Lsndß (Mr E. 0, Gold-Smitb), r Messrs Matthewson, Hyde, Baines, and Groome wore present. The District Surveyor reported on Willows estate drainage that the chief source of the surface water, as far ss be oould learn, was from Che slightly higher land on the north-west Bide of the road, He suggested that the flow of the surface water could b 3 almost completely remedied by opening np the drain through the swamp at a cost of about £64. Several settlers wrote as to the assistance they were prepared to give towards the cost of the drain. Mr C. Jackson waited on the Board and stated that if tbo funds were not sufficient the Road Board ought to make up the rest; the height of the Board’s road prevented the water from getting away from his section until it had risen over the road. The Commissioner said the amount offered by the settlers was £24 ; the Board had stated that if the settlers contributed half the cost of the improved drainage they would recommend tho Department to grant the other half. Decided to recommend Government to grant £SO on the settlers contributing £25. Mr P, Bates, Willows estate, asked as he had been refused a reduction of bis rent, the measurement of the lagoon be taken off tho section, as the lagoon was a publio drain for a large part of the Willows, and the water overflowed on to a | lot of the other land to the extent of about four acres. Lysnor asked the Board to recommend an exohange of portion of his small grazing run 79 on the boundary for a email freehold section in the centre of the same small grazing ran owned by his brother, Mr G. H. Lyenar. The exchange was to save extra fenoing, and make the run more workable generally.—Agreed to, the Distriot Surveyor to report on the respective values of the land. A. H.
