(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Saturday. The attention of the Magistrate’s Court was oeeupied for a ooneidoraole time today with hearing the defenoo in a ease in wbioh a number oi seamen of the barque Loob Garvo were charged with assaulting the first and seoood officore. The men asserted that the obiof offioor was the aggressor, and in addition to assaulting two of their number threatened others with a revolver. Throughout the voyage, they oontended, the chief officer had treated tho men severely. The Court reserved its decision.
Wairos, Saturday. William George Phillips, from Hawers, was oommitted to trial on three charges of obtaining money for photographs by false pretenoes. He visited fhe district 12 months ago, professing to enlarge photos, and look over one hundred orders. He nover accounted for the deposits or photos.
Auokiand, Saturday. A fire in the mallhouse at Campbell and EhreDfried’s brewery caused damage to tho extent of about £BOO, covered by insurances in the Alliance and South British offices.
Regarding tho alleged mutiny on the Austrian warship Panther, the oommander states that ever since the ship had been in the Southern hemisphere, four or five months, the officers and crew had been perfectly happy,with no thought of mutiny. The men were allowed ashore freely, and if'thero was any disaffection they would desert,
