St. Petersburg, Oct 11. Revolutionaries are trying to organise a general strike in Russia prior to the assembling of the duma. The authorities meditate a wide extension of martial law. Numerous strikes have begun at Moscow.
The Viedmosti boasts that Norway’s leanings, always Russian, hitherto checked by Swedon’s predominance, are now able to develop common political and economic interests. It urges Russia to negotiate for a naval base and genoral understanding.
Berlin, Ootober 11. The Association of Employers in Berlin postponed the lockout, hoping for a cessation of the strike. The Association is willing to concede a general rise of 5 or 6 per cent., but refuses 15 per cent., and considers it is imperative to resist the Trades Union plan of successfully extorting a rise for different categories of workmen by means of the menace of a general strike.
Paris, Oct. 11. M. Lauzaan, writer of the Matin’s revelations, declares that M. Delcasse did not inspire the articles.
New York, Oot 11. The amount paid by the New York Mutual Life Assurance Society in 1900 to campaign funds was 35,000 dollars. Melbourne, Oot. 12. The House has ratified the Orient Company’s contract, and added an arrangement whereby the company will,'carry mails between Sydney and Brisbane and vice versa at 3s 8d per mile, reducing the amount of subsidy paid for this local service.
Adelaide, Oot 12, Dr Sheridan, an unregistered practitioner, and a man named MacDonald have been committed to trial for murder in connection with an alleged operation.
