London, Oot, 10. The Daily Express states that Alfred Harmswortk is the principal defendant in a law-Buit whioh is expeoted to involve half a million pounds sterling. Plaintiffs, Captain Alexander Beaumont and Ins wife, allege they were induced to transfer certain shares in the paper Answers for bonds, the real value of the shares being concealed.
Buda Peeth, Ooiober 10. The Hungarian Diet has been prorogued until December 10th, without the Premier meeting the House. The Emperor Josef’s despatch in proroguing Parliament admits that attempts to form a new Government on the basis of securing Parliament againßt disorder have failed. St. Petersburg, Oot 10. Semi-official advices received at Askhabad state that Russia will shortly undertake the construotion of a duplicate strategic railway from Merv to Kushk. Brussels, Oot. 19. Terwagne, a Belgian Socialist deputy, caused a sensation by divulging an alleged German Government plan of building a short railway from Antwerp to Germany at a cost of 20 mil, lion francs, enabling German troops to reaoh Antwerp in two hours.
Capetown, Oot 10, LordSelborne, speaking at Krugersdorp, said he would neverJbe satisfied until every teacher was able to teach Dutch and Engfish. / Three Transvaalers, armed, were atrested'at Schint Drift and imprisoned at Kenhart for stealing 200 cattle, which have now been restored to the Germans.
Stookbolm, Oot. 10. The Storthing,Jby 101 to 16, adopted the Karlsbad Convention. Sydney, Oot. 11. The Government have decided to establish a day training oollege for both male and female students. Attaohed to the oollege will be a practising sohool with a fully-organised kindergarten, manual training, domestio science and Nature study olaases. The department will provide a two years’ course of training. The bulk of the students will be drawn from pupil teaohers. Melbourne, Oot, 11. The debate on the Queen Victoria memorial grant was adjourned. Mr Watson suggested that the money might more wisely be spent ou a great institution in London that would minister to the wants of the poor.
