The Auckland Baoing Club has resolved to refuse lioenses to bookmakers, and to exoiude them from future meetings. . Herbert O’Brien, a tram conductor, injured in a football aooident a week ago, died in the hospital to day. Richard Cummins, a middle-aged man, who had been re-arrested upon leaving ;aol, was oharged in the Police Oohrfc with laving imposed upon Isabal Kentwell for board and lodgings by false representation. Evidence brought by the police showed that Cummins had been guilty of a series of mean frauds upon various hoardinghouse keepers in Auckland. The prosecutrix, a widow, stated that Cummins stayed with her for a month, representing himself as a Government servant who was paid on the first of the month. When that date arrived Cummins promised to settle in the evening, but he never returned after ioaving in the morning. His unpaid bill was £8 17s. Mary Staoey, widow,keeping a boarding house, depoaod that Cummins stayed in her house for a fortnight. He Said he would pay at the end of that period. He never came back. ‘ Mary HendersoD.who kept accused free of oharge for a week, also gave evidenoe., Aoeused was sentenced to three moathe’ hard labor, During September the Talisman Consolidated mine treated 4050 tons of ore for bullion valued at £10,426.
