NAPIER PARK ACCEPTANCES.
.{Per Press Association.) Napier, last night. Tho following acceptances have been received for the Napier Park Baoing Club’s Spring Mooting Trial Hack Handicap, 6 furlongs,
Tho running of tho Hawke’s Bay mooting has not served to throw any light on the New Zealand Cup, at least, in so far a 3 pointing to the winner, of lhe Southern race (says ths Auoklaud Herald’s spotting contributor). Mahutonga was palled out at Hastings on both days, and each time an unplaced performance went down to bis name. Possibly, indesd I tbiok very probably, it would be unwise to place much value on Mahutoaga’s running at Hastings, for the simple reason that he had not. carried silk sinoe he ran at Ellerslie on the 3rd ol January last. It is reasonable to Bupposa that snob a glutton for work as is tho son of Quilt, will be considerably benefited by the two strong races he got at Hastings, and by the time New Zealand Cup day rolls ronod, the big cheßtnuk will, no doubt, be a very dif ferent horse in point of oondition to what he was this woek. Melodoon figured as a starter in the Spring Handicap, but although he was let off with Bst 31b be could only get third to Lyrist and Heroism. This does not read like New Zealand Cup form, but still, from what I can learn, it would be unwise to count him oat of the New Zealand Cup with only 7st 101 b opposite his name, for he is oredited with running more generously this season than last year. The bay son of Medallion has twice got into a plaoe in a big twomlla race, and at a third attempt he may equal to the task set him.
