BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
QUESTION OF CHURCH UNION,
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, Saturday. Tho annual conference of the Baptist Union was continued yesterday. Thu treasurer’s statement showed tbe receipts to have been £770 17s 9d, and tbe expenditnre £725 11s Id, leaving a credit balanoe of £45 6a Bd. During the oourse of the discussion whioh followed, several delegates deplored tho small amount Bpent on the students’ account, and the hope was expressed that more young men would come forward to be trained for the ministry. The report was adopted.
The report of tbe special committee appointed to consider the question of anion I between the Churohes of Christ and the churches of the Union stated that at the conference held at Dunedin between the representatives of the two bodies the following motion was adopted, “ That it be a strong recommendation from this conference that both Baptists and Churches of Christ avoid overlapping in country places, and that letters of commendation be given aod aooepted by both bodies.” The proposer of the motion for the adoption of the report made it clear that there was now no question of anion between the two bodies. An amendment, moved by | tbe Rev. Mr North (Ponsonby), to the effect that by reason of the radioal difference obtaining between the Baptist Churohes and the Churohes of Christ in relation to the conditions of salvation, the conference is unable to move in the direc- I tion of establishing oloser relations between I tbe two bodies.
