[(Fen Press Association.,) Wellington, last night. The experts who have come out to ereot the organ at the Town Hall have caused some consternation in musioal oircles by stating that the work will occupy five months, and the hall must be abandoned to them all that time. It was not supposed it would require more than ten weeks, and that the organ parts oould be stored in other portions of the building. The men, however, Bay they must use the floor of the hall, as there are 8400 pipes and hundreds of parts to lay out. The people here did not kdow the size of the instrument, so all the musioal aocietiea who have been looking forward to holding festivals have abandoned them, not to I speak of the loss of revenue, especially I during election time. I At the inquest ou the body of James MoEwen the jury found that deceased I died from a self-inflioted guashot wound, I but was unable to say whether it was accidentally fired. , A meeting of carpenters was held last I night to consider the rate of wages paid to I men following that trade. It was pointed out that wages had remaiued stationary | for years. It.was decided to approaoh the employers and the Minister for Public Works, with a demand for payment at the rate of Is .6d per hour. I A deputation from the Wellington EmI ployers’ Association waited oa the City Council last night to protest against the I inclusion of the preference clause in the I Council’s agreement with tramway em- : ployees. The Mayor said that in dealing I I w ijh workers it was better to have a statei ment of the latter’s case representing all > through the union than to deal with iudi- ) viduals.
