(Times Correspondent.) (September 28. Spring with us here is pretty far advanced, although it was tardy in making its appearance in the first instance. Things at present are looking their best, and a strong growth has been noticeable for nearly a month past, consequently there is any amount of feed everywhere. The orchard gives promise of a splendid yield, as all classes of fruit blossomed in profusion, and fortunately there has been no severe weather since to damage the bloom.
Sheepfarmer3 are again starting their yearly routine. Lamb-marking is now occupying all available hands. Very satisfactory percentages are reported all round, and stock of all class is looking well. Shearing will start in the district in ten days or so, weather permitting, and judging by appearances the wool returns should be above the average. The roads are now hardening very fast, and in a week or so will be in fair order, although the surface' will be a little rough and lumpy for a while. The Pakarae river is now crossable at almost any state of the tide.
Mr A. T. Ngata, who is contesting the eastern Maori electorate, addressed the electors at the settlement here on Monday evening last. The natives turned up in considerable force, coming from as far as.Puatae, Orihau and Pouawa. Consequently a very satisfactory meeting resulted. After a patient hearing a vote of confidence in Mr Ngata was passed unanimously.
