Robert Goodison, formerly steward on the coastal steamer Kotiti, was charged with having broken the Conditions of the steamer’ packet license by selling liquor to one Patersen while the vessel was attached to the wharf at Waipu (a prohibition dis- | triot.) The OBptain of the steamer, as holder of the license, had already been fined in respect to the same offence, and Goodison pleaded guilty. The Magistrate to defendant: “ I suppose you were in this position, that although the lioenee is io the skipper’s name you buy drink and make a profit on it yourself."
