THE HUGARDES.

Those clever entortainers appeared fo the second time in Qisborno last nigh when there was another enthusiastic and mystified audience. The pretty stage decorations were again greatly admired, and the audience were left in wonderment as to how the numerous remarkable feats wore accomplished. In all they do the Hugardes have a pleasing manner; there is none of the “ patter ” that is a weakness with some conjurers. All the (ricks are done I with a quickness that completely deceives even the closest watoher. The conjuring began with a " Night in Japan," during which maDy protty and extraordinary things were dnne. including the linking of tho rings and the vanishing and reappearing lady. Jean Hugarde’s original card tricks wore most astonishing. A great sensation was again provided with "Invulnerability,” bullets marked by the audience being used in the rifles. The lightning illusionist scene was a special feature, Jean Hugarde showing many wonderful original ; experiments, and finally acts the part of a burglar, and after being arrested by a policeman turns out to be the policeman himself. As on the previous evening the mesmeric seance bewildered everybody. A | obarming youDg lady was placed in a box, and then gradually lifted up and suspended in mid air, a hoop being passed all around her to show that no apparatus was | employed for the purpose. Many theories were prodounded as to the power made use of, and the seance should in itself be sufficient to draw a large crowd eaoh night. The programme was materially strenthened by the ballads and illustrated songs 1 of Miss Louie Fisher, who received double encores for “ I’m trying so hard to forget you,” and “ Sweet Adeline." Mr Edmund Rodie supplied the comio element, and a most attractive feature was the aeries of animated pioturee. The Gisborne season will conclude tomorrow
