LONDON .WOOL SALES.

The wool sales are firm, with a tendency against buyers. Following s,re the average prices realised for tbe fleece portions of the clips named :—Kekerangu lOjd, Tariki 12£d, Otamitu 21$d. At the tallow sales 1700 casks were offered and 900 sold. Prioes were unchanged. Later.—The wool sales closed firm. Prices were tho highest of the series.

At the wool sales there were sold for home consumption 36,000 bales, for the Continent 32,000 bales, for America 3t)00 bales, the amount hold over being 4000 baleß. Merinos met with the keenest demand. All combings advanced 5 per cent. Good scoured was a penny above July prices. Choioe crossbreds were at par to a halfpenny higher. All topmarker sorts were fully 5 per oent higher. .

Messrs Dalgety and Co. are in receipt of the following cablegram from their Lon dou office re the wool sales:— 11 The wool sales dosed very firm, the old stock being virtually cleared out. For scoured superior merino wools tbe prioes on an Average were 5 per cent higher than the dosing rates of last series. Other descriptions were higher by from 5 to 7£ per cent, shortscoured wools of inferior and faulty descriptions excepted. Greasy merino wools in general were 5 ‘per oent higher, } extra super wools excepted. Any change in prices was in favor of sellers. Fine crossbred wools sold at from par to 5 per oent higher, and coarse crossbred wool 8 per cent higher than the closing rates of last series, except greasy crossbred bright and light, for which prioes were on a par with dosing rates of last series. The total amount of wool available at the series was 82,000 bales, of which 44,000 bales were taken for home consumptioo, 32,000 for the Continent, 3000 for Amerioa, leaving 3000 bales to be carried forward to tbe next series. Tallow f Sinoe last advice extra super mutton taliow is 3d per owt, higher, medium to good from part to 3d lower, low and inferior fid tower.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenoy Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office re wool Market closed strong for all sorts. Previous rates are fully maintained. Prioes for faulty wool are on a par with last sales’ closing rates. The average current value in London for New Zealand wool is as under: Greasy merino 14d, medium 12&d, inferior lOd; fine oroßsbrcd 12d, medium lid, ooarse (40’s) lOd, ooarse (36’s) 9d. .

The Matawbero stock sales were held yesterday. There was a good attendance, and good lines sold readily.

Messrs Williams and Kettle and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenoy Company commenced at 11.30, and sold as under:—

Sheop: Over 3500 were yarded, the quotations being as follows—l 63 ewes and - lambs (good line) 20s 9d, 85 store ewes 14s, ' 266 ewe hoggets (from Mangatu) 15s, 74 two and four-tooth wethers 18s 6d, 226 wether hoggets (from Mungatu) 15s 6d, 263 do. 16s, 5 prime fat wethers 225, 6 big hoggets 15s, 20 empty owes 13s 6d, 10 ewes and lambs 20s, 59 big hoggets 16s 7d, 10 owes and lambs 18s 6d, 33 empty ewes 12s 9d, 11 good owes and lambs 21s 3d, 62 wether hoggets 16s 3d, 37 " fat ewes i 14s Id, 103 ewes and lambs 20s 6d, 12 ewes 13s, 61 fat ewes 21s 3d, 3 fat sheep 19s, 5 owes and lambs 16s 3d, 24 fat ewes 17s 6d, 39 hoggets 18s, 10 do. 13s 3d, 10 fat owes 18s, 81 wethers 20s 6d, 82 fat and forwatd wethers 20s, 78 two-tooth wethers 17s 7d, [ 1 maiden ewe (fat) 255, small pen fat ewes 20s, pen fat wethers 21s 6d, 180 hoggets 16s, 136 fat wethers 20s. Cattle : There was a good entry, the prioes being—Springers nearing profit £5, oow and calf £4, beef cow £5 10s, cow (and oalf) in full profit £5, springing heifers £6, cow and calf £5, young stoerr £2 17s 6d, calves 345, springer £7, 2 oalvei £l, 4 young cattle 37s 6d.

Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. and Dalgety and Co. commencod at 1 o’clock, and sold as follows: Sheep: Over 400 oame forward, and were Bold under the hammer at satisfactory prices. A pen of first-class five-year-old ewes, with lambs in killable condition, j brought 255, 164 owes and lambs 17s 4d, a poD prime fst ewes 20s, 40 fat ewes 17a 6d, 36 do. 17s, 93 hoggets 13s, 32 fat eweß 17s.
