The Executive Committee of the coalition expressed-deepest regret at the Emperor Josefs refusal to listen to the representatives of a majority of the meeting called in defence of the constitution. Deputies outside the coalition desiring to participate are invited. Stookholm, Sept. 26. Sweden and Norway adopted a neutral zone, demolishing the fortifications therein, though the Fredrikstens and Kongsrtinger old works will be preserved. A permanent arbitration treaty has been agreed to. Fredrikstens will be allowed a small gar* rison. “
Sydney, Sept, 27. Captain Stokes, R.N., officer in charge of Garden Island, speaks enthusiastically of the new naval base at Singapore. The object, he states is to obviate any danger to British possessions in Australia and Eastern waters by a possible block of the Suez, canal. The importance of Sydney as a naval depot is likely to be greatly enhanced.
Peter Close refused to answer questions before the Lands Commission as to what he did with commissions, and what he did with large sums of money received in connection with certain land transactions, on the ground that he might incriminate himself. The Attorney-General has given notice of a short measure granting immunity to witnesses against} prosecution in the event of their making admissions which might incriminate them.
