AN INSPECTOR’S REPORT.
STRONG OBJECTION RAISED.
XPer Psross Association.) Dunedin, last night. At a meeting of the Benevolent Trustees remarks by Dr. MacGregor in his report on hospitals and charitable aid again came up. The Chairman (Mr R. Maris Clark) ■aid the doctor’s remarks were most Tin* complimentary indeed, and they cast a reflection upon the good name and honesty of the members who formed these bodies throughout the colony. His remarks were - most improper, and he (Mr Clarke) was surprised that the Minister received the report in the form in which it was presented. Tbs Inspector referred to the meetings held for the purpose of electing two members to this body as hole and corner meetings, and added that these members were elected for their own purposes. He (the speaker) thought that such a remark was most improper. It would not be permitted in any other report he knew of. Mr Talboys said the whole thing should be brought before the Honse. He for one would not stand remarks of the kind made by the doctor. They would not allow other people to use them, eo why allow allow Dr. MacGregor to write as he had done ? Mr Tapper said the Inspector must do something for his money, and the only way for him to briog himself before the public was to set up the backs of men who worked honestly and laboriously—men who did more work than Dr. MacGregor did himself. Tbs matter was referred to a committee for a report.
