’(Per. Press AMOcia'tian.) Auckland, last night. Mr Kettle, SM., had to deal with an unusual separation order application at the Police Court yesterday. May Ford applied for a summary separation order againßt her husband, Alfred L. Ford, but although

the husband did not oppose this, His Worship would not grant the application owing to the peonliar oiroumstances. Mrs Ford said she had been married sinoe 1801, but had only lived with her husband seven months. He did not keep her, and on one occasion threatened to tear the clothes off her back if she did not givo him moneys j she had earned. She had been living with another man because her husband would not leave her ulodb. I

Mr Kettle (to the witness): If a married woman asks for a separation she has to come to the Contt with clean hands. Witness: He has not clean bands.

His Worship : That may be, but the provisions of this Aot are only intended to be used by respeotable married women, who cannot live with tboir husbands, because they are treated cruelly. Ford told the Magistrate that his wife bad lived with ths other man for two years, and would not leave to go tc a borne which ho (Ford) made her in the King oouDtry. His Worship suggested that Ford should undertake to keep the peaoe towards his wife for 12 months, and defendant consented to this oourse being taken, Mrs Ford’s application for a separation was disojisßed,
